Millard Fillmore Birthday Ceremony
Monday, January 8, 2008 at 10:00 am
Ceremony led by SUNY at Buffalo to be at the gravesite of President Millard Fillmore (13th President of the United States) in Section F at Forest Lawn Cemetery.



“Floral Tribute to Mother’s” – Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 3:00pm
We are planning to have a “Tribute to Mothers” service at 3:00pm at Forest Lawn in the Serenity Mausoleum (follow the yellow line from the Delaware Ave. entrance). The service at Lakeside will also be held at 3:00pm in the Mausoleum at 4810 Camp Road in Hamburg. There will be guest speakers and music for both services. If you are interested in attending, please call 716-885-1600 to make a reservation at Forest Lawn or 716-649-5507 to make a reservation at Lakeside Cemetery.



Memorial Day Weekend
All of The Forest Lawn Group of cemeteries will be open for Memorial Weekend. The cemetery grounds will be open at 8:00am until 7:00pm. Mausoleums at Forest Lawn and Lakeside will be open 10:00am until 4:00pm. The office for Forest Lawn, Lakeside and Williamsville cemeteries will be open as follows:
Saturday, May 24 from 8:30am until 4:00pm
Sunday, May 25 from 10:00am until 4:00pm
Monday, May 26 from 9:00am until 4:00pm



Sunday, May 25, 2008 – 10:00am
Memorial Day ceremony at the Grand Army of the Republic Plot in Section 14, enter through the Main St. and Delavan Avenue gate. This program is sponsored by the Buffalo Civil War Round Table (BCWRT).



Monday, May 26, 2008 – Memorial Day Service
The Erie County American Legion will be conducting its’ Memorial Day Services at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the veteran’s section (Section 19) near the Main St. and Delavan Avenue gate. The decoration of the graves will begin at 8:30am followed by services at 9:00am.



Boy Scouts may earn service hours for rank requirements by helping to place flags.




2008 Forest Lawn Tours



Pan-Am

The 1901 Pan-American Exposition is a significant part of Buffalo's history that brought international recognition to the “Queen City of the Lakes.” The Pan-Am tour is a two-part program that starts with a 45-minute docent led tour where stories, interactive displays and exhibits about the Pan-Am will be featured.


Guests will then travel by air-conditioned motor coach to historic Forest Lawn Cemetery where they learn about some of the most famous people responsible for this important extravaganza. At Forest Lawn, visitors may meet such “permanent residents” as Dr. Matthew Mann, the gynecologist who operated on President McKinley, and writer, Marian DeForest, who played a prominent role in the 1900's at the Buffalo Express Newspaper. Bottled water and a snack will be provided. The tour is 2 1/2 hours long.


Tours start and end at Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society Resource Center, located at 459 Forest Avenue, across from the Richardson Complex. There is plenty of free street parking.


History Tours
Back by popular demand for the 12th year!


In its 159 years, Forest Lawn Cemetery has become an enduring chronicle of local history and a cultural landmark to local accomplishment. Considering the impact of these accomplishments on America and the world, the cemetery is a national asset and fully deserves its designation in the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. On this tour guest’s travel through Forest Lawn's historic grounds by air-conditioned motor coach to hear stories about the some of the 155,000 people buried there.


Some of the highlights include views of the natural landscape that is part of Western New York’s largest arboretum, magnificent architecture and memorials and works of art by notable local and international artists. Guests may also encounter a few of Forest Lawn’s residents that will gladly give you some incite as to their contributions to Buffalo and in some cases to the nation. This journey through time and Buffalo’s history culminates at the famous Blocher Memorial. Tour begins at the Delaware and Delavan gates of Forest Lawn and lasts approx 1 1/2 hours.


Nature Tours
Dates: June 15, July 13, august 10 and Sept 21 - all at noon.


Forest Lawn is a picturesque rural cemetery with its rolling hills and charming valleys, spring-fed lakes, and a meandering creek. There are thousands of trees in Forest Lawn, representing 200 different species and varieties and making the cemetery an important arboretum in our region. Over 240 kinds of birds have been spotted in Forest Lawn. They are encouraged to be year-round residents by no-rent housing provided in the countless birdhouses placed throughout the cemetery. Other plant life and wildlife enhance the beauty of the special place in the heart of the city of Buffalo.


Join our resident nature expert, Kim Alexander Thomson as she takes you on a 1 1/2 hour walking tour for an up close and personal look at the many natural wonders that lie within the cemetery gates.


Civil War


This tour is a sell out each year so book early. Civil War re-enactors dressed in authentic military garb and scholar guides are part of this 1 1/2 hour air-conditioned motor coach tour throughout the cemetery. The tour focuses on many of the historic places and people that have a Western New York connection to this important time of United States history.


African American


An entertaining 1 1/2 hour ride through the cemetery on air conditioned motors coaches that takes a look at the notable African Americans buried in Forest Lawn that made significant contributions to our the city of Buffalo and to the nation. The tour is a collaboration with the The Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, Inc. and features notables such as Mary Talbert, who was served terms as president, vice president and director of the NAACP.
