A few things to consider
Most cemeteries only offer traditional graves and markers. At Forest Lawn, our Feature Lots, Estate Lots, and beautiful monuments and sculptures are what have made us what we are today – Western New York’s most scenic, historic and unique cemetery.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
- Do I prefer above-ground or in-ground burial?
- Do I want a traditional headstone, a lawn-level marker, or some other memorial – perhaps a bench, a plaque, a garden, or even a family building?
- Will a spouse, children or others eventually be buried nearby?
- What is my budget? At Forest Lawn, in-ground spaces start at $1,500 pre-need, $900 at-need; above-ground community space crypts in our Serenity Mausoleum start at $3,500.
At Forest Lawn, you can choose from:
Traditional Graves – these spaces are available in many areas throughout Forest Lawn, and may be customized with countless memorial options.
Custom Lots – Custom Lots allow for creative expression (typically, some of the lot is used for a bench or small sculpture, rather than using it all for burial space). These lots are sold by the square foot, and are often irregularly shaped based on a family’s preference for the surrounding landscape, views and topography (e.g. hillsides).
Estate Lots – these areas allow for additional customization and creativity, such as a flower garden, a sculpture and bench, a monument, or even a private above-ground mausoleum.
Feature Lots – located in the most prestigious area in Forest Lawn, this land for Feature Lots has been held in reserve for a century… until now. A Feature Lot allows families to create their own “cemetery within a cemetery,” an area just for you or the whole family – without the responsibility of future groundskeeping or maintenance. Feature Lots often accommodate a private mausoleum, a garden, benches, sculptures or a combination of the above.
Veterans Areas – Forest Lawn offers sections reserved for veterans and their spouses. In fact, there are veterans of ten wars buried here, including seven Medal of Honor recipients (only Arlington National Cemetery has more). And every Memorial Day Weekend and Veterans Day, a United States flag is placed on the grave of every veteran in our veteran’s Section 19 at Forest Lawn – truly an inspiring sight.
Restricted Areas - While Forest Lawn embraces and welcomes people of all faiths, there are sections reserved for both the Sisters of St. Joseph, and for people of the Jewish faith.
