Buffalo's East Side Industry and the Forest Lawn Connection
2.19.2017 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Shane Stepenson’s new book "Arcadia Publishing's 'Buffalo's East Side Industry' attempts to show the industrial might that was the East Side of Buffalo, the most important industrial section of the city after the waterfront.
Through 204 images beginning in the 1870s, and 141 businesses, the author will discuss various topics related to industry on the East Side. Some of the questions he will address include:
Why did industry develop in Buffalo?
When did the East Side become a major driver of jobs?
When did the East Side begin development?
He will also highlight a few companies such as the Buffalo Forge Company, the Hewitt Rubber Company, and tie in building reuse throughout the 20th Century. Many of the owners of companies on the East Side are buried in Forest Lawn, and some of these prominent Buffalo citizens will be highlighted.
Copies of Mr. Stepenson's book will be available for sale and he will gladly autograph a copy for you.
The program will be presented in Forest Lawn's Margaret L. Wendt Archive and Resource Center located on the grounds of Forest Lawn at 1990 Main Street (directly across from Canisius College) with plenty of free parking available.
